Georgia Southern Fall Shootout Continues for Women's Tennis

The Emory University women's tennis team continued play at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout Saturday in Statesboro, totaling eight wins in singles and a pair of victories in doubles.

In singles, the Eagles saw three players in junior Stephanie Taylor, Katie Chang and sophomore Jessica Fatemi advance to the finals in their respective draws. In the FAYE draw, Taylor topped ASU's Guevrement in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 while Fatemi and Chang earned straight set victories with Fatemi defeating GSU's Hijos 6-3, 7-6 in the ERK semifinals and Chang defeating MU's Sovic 6-4, 6-0 in the GUS draw. Junior Sasha Hartje improved to 2-0 in the Freedom draw as she bested KSU's Cantrell 6-3, 6-3.

The Eagles tallied four wins in consolation matches with freshman Alexa Goetz won 7-5, 6-3 over MU's Roquebert, sophomore Emma Cartledge defeated KSU's Jarrett 6-4, 6-3, sophomore Christina Watson topped SCAD's Tobrand 6-4, 6-2 and freshman Stephanie Shulman won 6-3, 6-3 over SCAD's Katzakov.

In doubles, the Emory duos of Fatemi and Chang advanced to the finals in the GATA draw with a 6-1 victory over FAMU's Clayton/Harden while Hartje and sophomore Lauren Yoon won the finals of the abbreviated Eagles draw, defeating the duo of Sovic (MU) and Cantrell (KSU), 6-2.
