Emory University freshman Eliza McPherron was named the University Athletic Association Co-Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.

McPherron became the latest Eagle to capture the ITA South Regional singles championship, doing so this past weekend in Tennessee. McPherron went 6-0 as she made her way through the singles draw, defeating Methodist's Megan Kidd (6-3, 6-0), Piedmont's Imani Vincent (6-1, 6-0), Sewanee's Natalia Nassar (6-2, 7-5), teammates Alexa Goetz (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) and sophomore Ana Cristina Perez (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) as well as NC Wesleyan's Kristal Dule (7-5, 6-2) on her path to the title.

The Weston, MA native added a doubles quarterfinals run with senior Christina Watson, defeating Piedmont's Vincent/Laidman 8-3 before falling to eventual runner-ups Emma Cartledge/Jessica Fatemi, 8-4, in the quarters.

McPherron is the 19th consecutive ITA South Regional singles champion for the Eagles and the sixth freshman to do so. She now advances to the ITA Cup which will be held in Rome, GA from October 14-17.
