Kantrovitz Wins ITA South Regional Singles Title; Perez/Kantrovitz Finish Second in Doubles

The Emory University women's tennis team finished day three of the ITA South Regional in Sewanee, Tennessee with a full day of competition in singles and doubles. The squad will return to Atlanta with new hardware as sophomore Emily Kantrovitz won the singles championship on Sunday afternoon and teammate Ana Cristina Perez took second in singles.

Kantrovitz started the tournament on Friday quickly earning two wins in straight sets before completing the same feat on Saturday afternoon to earn a spot in the semifinals. She defeated fellow teammate Alyssa Margolin in the semifinals to earn her spot in the finals. Kantrovitz faced doubles partner Perez in the singles final earning the title with a 6-1, 6-4 decision. With the win, Kantrovitz will be headed to the ITA Cup which will take place at the Rome Tennis Center October 12-16.

Perez also started the tournament with two straight set wins before beating Sewanee on Saturday morning to advance to the quarterfinals. She faced teammate Iris Berman and fellow senior Ilayda Baykan on her way to the finals.

The duo of Kantrovitz and Perez teamed back up again for their match against Sewanne for the doubles title. They took down two teams on Friday advancing to the quarterfinals on Saturday before winning their semifinals match against Sewanee. The tandem finished second in the doubles draw dropping their match on Sunday to Sewanee's Despreit/Petty with a 6-4, 6-1 line.

The Eagles will be back next weekend to compete in the GGC Grizzly Open, starting October 6 in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
