Women’s Tennis Opens Play at ITA Cup; Kantrovitz and Perez Reach Quarterfinals in Singles and Doubles

Two Emory University women's tennis players were back in action on Thursday competing at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia. Representing the Eagles were senior Ana Cristina Perez and sophomore Emily Kantrovitz

Kantrovitz, the ITA South Regional champion, and Perez both took part in the singles competition before teaming up for the doubles draw. They advanced to the quarterfinals in both singles and in doubles.

The day started with Kantrovitz competing against Grinnell's Irene Agusti in the first round of competition on Thursday winning her match with a 6-4, 6-0 straight set decision. She will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripp's Lindsay Eisenman on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals. 

Perez faced UAA opponent Jimena Menendez of NYU in her first round match going three sets and taking the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory. She will compete against Chicago's Sylwia Mikos on Friday afternoon in her quarterfinal match.

Competing as the No. 4 seed, the duo met NYU's Isabella Hartman and Dakota Fordham in the doubles draw on Thursday evening. Kantrovitz/Perez took the match by 7-5, 6-1 margins and will face Chicago's Mikos and Shianna Guo on Friday night in the quarterfinals.
