Women's Tennis Drops Monday Matchup to #3 Pomona-Pitzer, 5-4

The Emory University women's tennis team fell in its second straight match dropping its Monday afternoon match to the No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 5-4 in Claremont, California.

The No. 7 ranked Eagles hold a 4-4 record on the season and will face two more Top-10 ranked opponents this weekend.

The Eagles were able to get a point through doubles with the other two matches coming down to just a few points. Sophomore Izzy Antanavicius and freshman Yanire Marte battled through their match to win with an 8-6 decision. Senior Ana Cristina Perez and sophomore Emily Kantrovitz brought their set of doubles to an 8-7 decision forcing a tiebreaker but fell 8-6 to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Iris Berman continues to show out in her home state of California winning her matchup on court five to take Emory's second point of the day. After the Sagehens took their singles match on court two and three, they took a 4-2 lead over the Eagles.

Despite losing her first set 6-1, Kantrovitz mounted a successful comeback going 6-4, 6-3 in her final two sets to take her singles match. Marte had split her first two sets 3-6, 6-3 before winning her match by opponent retirement.

Antanavicius battled through her singles match falling in the first set 6-3 before making a comeback in set two 6-4 before falling 6-2 in the final set securing the win for Pomona-Pitzer.

The Eagles will take the week off before traveling to the University of Redlands on Friday, March 15 at 3:00 PM EST.
