Women’s Tennis Wins Fourth Straight Match; Defeats #20 Tufts 8-1 on Saturday

The Emory University women's tennis program won their fourth straight match on Saturday morning defeating the Tufts Jumbos 8-1 at the WoodPec Indoor Courts in Atlanta.

The Eagles improve to 8-4 on the season with their back-to-back wins Friday and Saturday. Once again, sophomore Emily Kantrovitz continues to be a powerhouse in singles competition winning her sixth straight match while freshman Yanire Marte has improved to 10-1 during the spring in singles.

Kantrovitz and doubles partner Ana Cristina Perez were looking for a comeback in doubles after Friday's match earning a quick 8-4 victory on court one to earn Emory's first point of the day. The Jumbos were able to gain a point after taking the doubles match on court three with the final doubles point coming down to sophomore Iris Berman and partner Eliza McPherron on court two. The duo was able to come up with an 8-6 victory on three helping the Eagles to a 2-1 lead to start the match.

Berman started things for the Eagles in singles on court four earning a quick 6-0, 6-1 win before senior Ilayda Baykan followed with a straight set, 6-2, 6-2 decision on court three giving the Eagles a 4-1 advantage in the match.

For the second match in a row, Perez was the clinching point after winning her singles match 7-6 (4), 6-0 on court two for Emory's fifth point of the match. Kantrovitz fought a tough battle on court one dropping her first set 6-7 before taking the second set 7-5. She ended up winning the tiebreaker 10-7 to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead.

Marte got her 10th singles win of the season on court five with a straight set, 6-0, 6-3 win before McPherron ended the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court six.

The Eagles will return to the courts on Sunday, March 24 to face the Colby Mules at 12:00 PM. Before the match, the Eagles will celebrate senior day honoring Perez and Baykan.
