Women’s Tennis Celebrates Senior Day with 8-1 Win over Colby

The Emory University women's tennis team ended their home-weekend stint with an 8-1 win over the Colby Mules on Sunday afternoon following its senior day celebration.

The Eagles improve to 9-4 on the season and have won five straight matches. Before the match, the team celebrated seniors Ilayda Baykan and Ana Cristina Perez for their contributions to the team over the last few seasons.

The Eagles got off to a quick start in doubles with freshman Yanire Marte and sophomore Izzy Antanavicius getting an 8-3 victory on court three before Perez and her doubles partner Emily Kantrovitz fought a battle on court two winning their match 8-5 to earn Emory's second point of the day. Sophomore Iris Berman and junior Eliza McPherron won their third straight doubles match by an 8-6 margin making the Eagles perfect in doubles.

Baykan entered the match hungry for her third singles win of the weekend and did just that securing the fourth team point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court two. Antanavicius followed behind with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory on court three to clinch the match for Emory at five points.

Berman and Perez finished next on courts four and one with their 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 wins respectively. McPherron got the Eagles' eighth point of the match with a 6-4, 7-5 straight set win on court six.

The Eagles will return to the courts on Friday, March 29 where they will face fellow Atlanta-foe Oglethorpe at 2:30 PM at the WoodPec.
