Women’s Tennis Finishes Weekend with 7-2 Victory against #12 Trinity

The Emory University women's tennis program finished its weekend of competition with a 7-2 victory over the No. 12 ranked Trinity Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles improve to 12-3 after going 3-0 on the weekend with two wins against ranked opponents. Junior Eliza McPherron was able to clinch the match with her singles win on court six.

In doubles, the Eagles were able to take a 2-1 lead after taking wins on courts two and three. Freshman Yanire Marte and sophomore Izzy Antanavicius tied the match at 1-1 with their 8-7 victory on court three before sophomore Iris Berman and McPherron clinched the final doubles point on court two with another 8-7 win.

Antanavicius got things started for Emory in singles winning her match on court four with a 6-2, 6-2 straight set decision for the Eagles' third point of the match. Senior Ilayda Baykan followed her teammate with another straight set, 6-0, 6-2 victory on court three, her ninth singles win of the season.

Trinity was able to take the match on court one with a three-set thriller cutting the Eagles' lead to 4-2. McPherron clinched Emory's fifth point of the match with her 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 victory on court six to secure the win for the Eagles. Her doubles partner, Berman, followed closely behind with a three-set, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win in the No. 5 spot, her 11th singles win this season.

Senior Ana Cristina Perez finished the match in the No. 2 spot winning her three-set match with a line of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to secure the 7-2 victory for the Eagles.

Emory will return to the WoodPec outdoor courts on Friday, April 12 for an exhibition match against the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies.
