#2 Seeded Women’s Tennis Defeats NYU in First Round of UAA Championships

The Emory University women's tennis opened the 2024 postseason at the UAA Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida on Friday morning. The No. 2 seeded Eagles downed the No. 7 seeded NYU Violets 5-0 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals.

The Eagles improve to 13-3 on the season and will play the No. 3 seeded WashU Bears on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM in the semifinal match after the Bears defeated Brandeis Friday morning, 5-1.

The duo of sophomore Izzy Antanavicius and freshman Yanire Marte got things started in doubles for the Eagles clinching the opening point with their 8-1 decision on court three. Senior Ana Cristina Perez and sophomore Emily Kantrovitz followed by securing the second point of the match for the Eagles with their 8-2 win on court one.

Finishing things on court three was sophomore Iris Berman and junior Eliza McPherron winning their eighth straight doubles match with an 8-4 victory on court two.

Antanavicius secured the fourth match point for the Eagles with a straight set 6-1, 6-3 victory on court four. On court five, Berman clinched the winning point for Emory taking her match with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. 

Around the courts, Perez took her first set on court two 6-3 and was winning her second set 3-1 before the match ended. Marte was also up 6-2, 4-1 on court six while senior Ilayda Baykan was winning her match 6-1, 3-1.
