2010 Emory Women's Outdoor Track & Field Season Recap

2010 Emory Women's Outdoor Track & Field Season Recap

The 2010 season was a banner year for the Emory University women’s outdoor track and field team, which won its fifth University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championship, and the program’s first since the 1997 season.

The Eagles edged the University of Chicago by two points in a thrilling finish to the UAA Championship meet.  Emory and Chicago entered the final race of the meet, the 4x400-meter relay, tied with 191.50 points apiece.  With the conference championship on the line, the Eagles’ relay team of Hadiza Sa-Aadu, Brittany Donino, Melanie Levy and Alix Dyer recorded a season-best time of 4:01.50 to best Chicago’s representatives by just under two seconds and take home the UAA crown.

For her efforts during the UAA Championships, Donino was named the conference’s Most Outstanding Performer in running events, after winning the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay.  Emory’s coaches, lead by head coach John Curtin, also earned recognition as the UAA’s Coaching Staff of the Year.  All together, six different Eagles won a total of seven individual events and two relays during the meet, while garnering 23 all-UAA certificates.

Donino would also go on to earn all-America honors for the first time during her outdoor track and field career, finishing eighth in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Championships with a career-best time of 14.32 seconds.  Donino scored the Eagles' lone point during the meet, helping Emory to a 66th-place finish.

A pair of Eagles recorded school records during the season.  Emory sophomore Alix Dyer set a school record with a time of 56.75 seconds in the 400-meter dash at the Ole Miss Invitational.  In the triple jump, sophomore Lauren Attiah’s distance of 11.86 meters at the UAA Championships was also a school record, breaking her own previous record mark of 11.82 meters, set in 2009.

Other highlights from the season include two high finishes at the Eagles’ own meets, including a third-place finish out of 12 teams at the Emory Invitational, and a first-place finish out of 16 teams at the Emory Classic a week later.
