Eagles Perform Well at Pair of Weekend Meets

The Emory University Track and Field Team turned in a number of impressive performances this weekend, while in action at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson University in Clemson, SC and the Tiger Indoor Invitational at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN.

Emory kicked off the weekend on Friday at the Bob Pollock Invitational, which featured mostly NCAA Division I competition.  During the first day of the meet, sophomore Julie Williamson recorded a season-best time by an Eagle in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:22.11, finishing 10th overall in the event, while junior Electra Korn set a personal-best mark in the 200-meter dash, finishing 17th with a time of 26.17 seconds.  Korn and Williamson were also members of the Eagles' sixth-place 4x400-meter relay team, along with junior Katie Pohl and junior Hannah Smith, which finished in a time of 4:09.41.

For the men on Friday, sophomore Adam Rabushka claimed fourth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71 seconds, while junior Ankush Mohile was close behind, claiming sixth-place with a time of 8.81 seconds.  Rabushka added a 15th-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.46 seconds.  Junior Gui Silva was the Eagles' top finisher in the 200-meter dash, claiming ninth with a mark of 23.10 seconds, while Dennis Kamara led all Eagles with a 13th-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.22 seconds), senior Eric Weiner claimed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:36.78, and senior William Matheson took home 13th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.21.  

Emory continued competition at the Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday, when senior Emily Caesar paced all Eagles in the mile run.  Running the event for the first time in her career, Caesar finished 10th overall with a time of 5:13.60, the third-fastest time in the University Athletic Association (UAA) this season.  Junior Stephanie Crane finished close behind, taking 11th-place in the mile with a time of 5:14.99.

Silva continued to perform well on the second day of competition at Clemson, finishing 11th in the seeded 400-meter run with a time of 50.78 seconds, the fastest converted time by a UAA competitor this year.  Other top performances from Eagles during the second day of the Bob Pollock Invitational came from junior Debora Adjibaba in the seeded 60-meter dash (14th place, 7.81 seconds) and seeded 200-meter dash (ninth place, 25.81 seconds), and senior Meredith Lorch in the seeded 3,000-meter run (seventh place, 10:45.00).

At the Tiger Indoor Invitational, junior Elaina Kim led the Eagles with a personal record in the long jump, finishing second in the event with a leap of 5.36 meters.  The distance was .79 meters better than her previous career best, and ranks as the third-best in the UAA this season and 18th-best in Division III.  Senior Morgan Monroe added a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.47 seconds in the finals (and a mark of 8.45 seconds in the preliminaries), while claiming fourth in the finals of the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.65 seconds (7.54 seconds in the preliminaries).  Other top finishers for the Emory women at Sewanee included freshman Harley Barrera in the 200-meter dash (fifth place, 28.43 seconds), junior Katie Wilson in the high jump (third place, 1.52 meters) and sophomore Alexandra Aiello in the pole vault (sixth place, 2.59 meters). 

Senior Brandon Bassell earned an event win for the Emory men, claiming a victory in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.83 meters.  Junior Mike Moserowitz added a third-place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 6.43 meters, the second-longest in the UAA this season.  Other leaders for the Eagles included sophomore Spencer Koh in the 55-meter dash (15th place, 6.78 seconds), junior Zachary Rosenberg in the 200-meter dash (sixth place, 23.86 seconds), sophomore Joel Steinberg in the 400-meter dash (11th place, 58.05 seconds), junior Matt Dry in the 800-meter run (sixth place, 2:09.06), sophomore Young Jin Kim in the pole vault (fifth place, 3.81 meters), sophomore Jacob Seigel in the shot put (fourth place, 12.42 meters) and sophomore Taylor Jarl in the weight throw (second place, 12.29 meters).

The Eagles will continue their season schedule next weekend at the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, February 7th and Saturday, February 8th.
