Emory Women Place Third at 2015 UAA Outdoor Championships

Emory University freshman Caitlin Cheeseboro won the first individual conference championship of her career, and six other Eagles added on all-conference (top-three) finishes on Sunday, to help lift the Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2015 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Emory at the Woodruff Physical Education Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Emory collected 88 points during the second day of the meet, to finish the UAA Championships with a total of 138 points.  The University of Chicago won the UAA Title with a score of 193 points, followed by Washington University (Mo.) in second with 184 points.  Following Emory was Case Western Reserve University (112 points), New York University (77 points), Carnegie Mellon University (65 points) and Brandeis University (42 points).

It marked the 12th-consecutive season that the Eagles have finished third or better at the UAA Outdoor Championships, and the 25th time in 28 years of conference competition.

Cheeseboro won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.92 seconds, marking the first time in her career that she has broken the 15-second mark in the event.  Her title was the second of the meet for the Eagles, after senior Hannah Smith won the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday.

Five other Emory athletes recorded second-place finishes on Sunday, led by junior Julie Williamson, who was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.69, the fourth-best mark in school history.  In the 400-meter dash, freshman Erica Goldman was the runner-up with a time of 57.00 seconds, a career-best and the 23rd-best mark by a Division III competitor in 2015.  Senior Hannah Parra registered a career-best time in the 400-meter hurdles for the second-straight day, placing second with a mark of 1:04.75.

In the field events, senior Katie Wilson tied for second in the women's high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.60 meters.  Senior Madison Hoeninghausen added an all-UAA finish by placing second in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.67 meters.

Freshman Julia Leventhal also claimed all-UAA honors on Sunday with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds.

Emory competitors combined for 29 scoring performances during the two-day meet, including a pair of first-place finishes, five second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.

Emory will now begin its final stretch of the season, as the Eagles will begin to prepare for the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships.  The Eagles are slated to return to action at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on May 7th and 8th.
