2015-16 Women's Indoor Track & Field Season Recap

Led by the 4x400m Relay team, the Emory University Women's Track & Field team came in 28th place with eight points at the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA.

The 4x400m Relay comprised of sophomores Julia Leventhal, Erica Goldman and freshmen Dilys Osei and Ariana Newhouse registered a second place finish in the event with a time of 3:52.33, becoming just the second ever Emory relay team to earn indoor All-America honors. Their season place showing also marked the highest by at indoor nationals in Emory history (individual or relay).

Also representing the Eagles at the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships was senior Julie Williamson who was making her second career appearance at nationals. The Chatham, NJ native recorded a time of 2:14.18 in the 800m Run to finish ninth in the event.

Earlier in the season, Emory posted its second straight third-place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships held at the Armory in New York, NY. The Eagles scored 102 points at the meet behind 11 All-UAA finishes and one event championship.

Senior Alexandra Aiello netted the Eagles' lone event title, winning the triple jump with a mark of 11.07m. Aiello added a second place showing in the long jump (5.34m) and a fifth place finish in the 60m Dash (8.03) en route to being named the 10th-ever Most Outstanding Indoor Performer in Emory history.

In addition to Aiello, Osei was named the UAA Rookie of the Year after earning three All-UAA honors at the meet. Osei was second in the 200m Dash at 25.48, third in the 60m Hurdles (9.12) and was part of the third place 4x400m Relay team which set a new school record with a time of 3:51.35. She is just the third Eagles ever to be named the UAA Rookie of the Year.

Aiello and Osei were two of nine Emory athletes to collected All-UAA kudos at the meet with seniors Aileen Rivell (3rd, 3000m Run), Williamson (3rd in both the 800m Run and 4x400m Relay), sophomores Kora Dreffs (2nd, Shot Put), Goldman (2nd in 400m Dash and 3rd in 4x400m Relay), Leventhal (3rd, 100m Dash) and freshmen Dani Bland (2nd, 60m Dash) and Newhouse (3rd, 4x400m Relay) earning top-3 showings at the meet.

The Eagles also left their mark on the USTFCCCA South/Southeast All-Region list with Head Coach John Curtin being named the regional Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career and a Division III-leading total of 22 members of the team earning all-region status in 14 different events. Osei led the team with three All-Region certificates earning kudos in the 60m Hurdles, 200m Dash and 4x400m Relay events.

Emory also placed 16th to begin the season at the BSC Panther Icebreaker in December.
