Track & Field Competes at VertKlasse Meeting

The Emory University track & field programs competed at the VertKlasse Meeting at High pOint University this past weekend against mostly Division I competition.

On the men’s side, senior Lukas Mees posted the third fastest time in school history in the 3000m Steeplechase at 9:18.37 to place third in the event. Sophomore Shane Sullivan recorded the best Eagle mark this outdoor season in 5,000m Run with a time 14:54.34, placing fifth, and senior Spencer Koh scored the best mark of the outdoor season for Emory in the javelin throw with a mark of 49.97.

For the women, senior Julie Williamson ran the fastest time by an Eagle in the 800m Run, crossing the finish line in ninth place with a time of 2:13.99. The time was also the sixth fastest in the event in school history. Also posting season-best team marks for the Eagles was freshman Abigail Hotaling in the 3000m Steeplechase (7th, 11:26.72), sophomore Valerie Linck in the shot put (26th, 11.44m) and freshman Paris Wagner in the discus (27th, 34.04m).

Adding top performances for Emory men were sophomore Max Brown in the 1500m Run (5th, 3:59.47) and 800m Run (17th, 1:56.84), junior Ian McIsaac in the 800m Run (16th, 1:56.75), sophomore Benjamin Rogin in both the 110m Hurdles (12th, 15.52) and 400m Hurdles (11th, 57.78), junior Kyle Veator in the long jump (20th, 6.28m) and senior Jack Seigel in the discus (19th, 44.04m).

For the Emory women, Williamson and sophomore Gabrielle Stravech were 13th (4:45.18) and 14th (4:45.43) in the 800m Run, freshman Amanda Martin placed fourth in the 5000m Run at 18:06.30 and freshman Dani Bland topped the Eagles in both the 100m Dash (16th, 12.30) and 200m Dash (38th, 26.26).

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday, April 9th with the Berry Field Day Invitational at Berry College.
