Emory Women's Track & Field Competes at ETSU Invitational

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team was back in action this past weekend, competing at the ETSU Track & Field Invitational on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. There was no team scoring for Division III programs at the meet.

Sophomore Ariana Newhouse led all Emory performers in the track events, qualifying for the finals of the 400m Dash with a preliminary time of 59.64. She was the lone non-DI runner out of all eight runners that advanced to the finals.

Junior Gabrielle Stravach topped all Division III runners in the 3000m Run, finishing seventh overall with a time of 10:34.82. In the 800m Run, freshmen Jordan Burgess and Ileana Zeissner were the leading Division III performers, finishing 11th and 12th respectively with times of 2:29.48 and 2:30.38.

Junior Dyess Verfurth claimed first place in section two of the 5000m Run, finishing 17th overall with a time of 19:56.04. Sophomore Dani Bland led all Emory runners in the 60m and 200m Dashes, taking 22nd in the 60 at 8.08 and 26th in the 200 with a time of 26.28. Freshman Gabrielle Davis added a 22nd place showing for the Eagles in the 60m Hurdles, crossing the finish line at 9.81.

In the field events, sophomore Paris Wagner finished 22nd overall in the weight throw with a distance of 10.43m while freshman Nyla Lindo posted a mark of 1.50m to finish 16th in the high jump.

The Eagles continue the indoor season next Sunday with the Emory Crossplex Invitational which will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
