Emory Women's Track & Field Records Eight Personal-Best Marks at JDL Flat is Fast Meet

The Emory University women's track & field team ventured to Winston-Salem, NC for the JDL Flat is Fast Meet Saturday. Several Eagles gave career-best efforts at the competition that was held at the JDL Fast Track and did not feature team scoring.

Junior Rebekah Bondi had a career-best day. Bondi was stuck on a 60m dash time of 7.84 for the last few weeks before breaking through to finish with a new personal-record of 7.74 in the event's finals, taking second-place. Other participants in the 60m dash included freshman Ella Lavelle (7.94, fifth-place) and junior Michelle Rosenblum (8.27, 15th-place). Additionally, Bondi leapt 5.36m in the long jump, also a career-high, to earn fourth-place in that event. Senior Nyla Lindo (4.88, 10th-place) and Amy Hunter (4.69m, 14th-place) also competed in the long jump.

Junior Laura Sheckter continued to break her own personal-best marks after setting a new Emory record in the shotput a week ago. This week, she established a new career-best distance in the weight throw by slinging the weight 13.97m, earning first-place. Sophomore Oceane De Greef followed Sheckter with an effort of 11.30m. Sheckter tossed the shotput 12.54m to end up in second-place out of 25 competitors. Peyton Rees came up with a personal-best heave of 9.64m to take 13th-place. Also in the field, senior Isabel Saridakis managed to clear the bar set at 3.45m in the pole vault, claiming first-place. Freshman Ticia King got over 3.15m, marking her best attempt of the season and got third-place.

On the track, the Eagles finished in first and second-place in the 1 Mile Run. Freshman Shana Fitzmaurice and junior Ana Morris crossed in consecutive fashion after 5:30.38 and 5:37.66, respectively. Freshman Lauren Ashen also made her indoor debut, finishing the mile in 6:07.05. Freshmen Leah Clark (11:06.08, second-place) and Annika Urban (11:15.11, third-place) performed well in the 3000m Run. Sophomore Eileen Laverty followed the pair of freshmen, setting a personal-record time of 11:23.79 and found herself in fifth-place. Junior Christina Dwier was the final Eagle to cross in the 3K, doing it in 11:56.49 to earn eighth-place.

In the 800m Run, freshman Grace Formichella crossed after 2:30.09 and junior Rachel Shanahan (2:32.08) finished immediately after in third-place out of 23 runners. Lavelle came in third-place in the 200m Dash, racing in 27:01, a personal-record. Just behind Lavelle was junior Michelle Rosenblum (27.32). Freshman Claire Evans competed in the 60m Hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.78, which was good enough for 11th-place.

The Eagles' next competition, the Carolina Challenge, is slated for January 31st. The event will span across two days and will be hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
