Three Eagles From Women's Track and Field Team Selected for NCAA Indoor Championships

NCAA ACCEPTED ENTRIES

Three members of the Emory University Women's Track and Field team have been selected to compete in the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on March 13th and 14th at the JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem, NC. Junior Laura Sheckter, junior Rebekah Bondi, and senior Isabel Saridakis were among those chosen to compete in individual events for the Eagles.

Saridakis is set to compete in the Pole Vault for the second straight season, and earned All-America acclaim in the event last year, placing fifth overall. The pole vaulter enters with the 13th-best mark in DIII competition. Bondi will be competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time in her career, ranking 13th in the 20-person field with a time of 7.70 in the 60m Dash. Sheckter will also be making her first appearance at the National Championships, as she will throw the Shot Put in Winston-Salem. Sheckter is in her first year of indoor competition, as she was solely a basketball player her freshman year and did not compete in collegiate track and field until her sophomore year. Since making the choice to focus on her field events this season, the California native has shown rapid improvement. Sheckter currently holds the Emory program record in the Women's Shot Put with her mark of 13.91m, which is the 10th-longest throw produced by the 20 competitors that had their entries accepted for the championship meet. A week ago, Sheckter took the top spot at the UAA Championships in New York, NY.

Saridakis will be the first Eagle in action on the opening day of competition in North Carolina. The Pole Vault event will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Not long after that, Bondi will race in the preliminary rounds of the 60m Dash event on Friday at 4:05 p.m., with the finals to follow on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. Also on Saturday, Sheckter will compete in the Shot Put event, which gets going at 11:00 a.m.
