Three Program Records Fall at Lynchburg, Berry Meets

Three program records highlighted Friday's events as the Emory University track & field teams sent split squads to meets at Berry College and the University of Lynchburg.

Graduate student Nikki Boon continues to rewrite the Emory record books in her debut season with the Eagles, adding another record to her resume. At the Berry Field Day Invitational, Boon broke the program record in the heptathlon with her score of 5,107 points. Boon finished inside the top-four in all seven events including first place efforts in the long jump (5.60m) and javelin (37.51m). The previous Emory record was 4,828 points set by Theresa Ford at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Boon's mark on Friday is the second-best figure at the Division III level so far this season.

At the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in Lynchburg, Virginia it was senior Spencer Watry and junior Madison Tiaffay who headlined the Eagles at the competition as both runners set program records for the second straight week. After posting a team-best mark in the 800m last weekend, Watry etched his name a top of the outdoor mile list with his time of 4:15.35. For Tiaffay, her previous record in the outdoor mile stood for only a week as she eclipsed her previous PR by over five seconds with a time of 4:57.09.

In addition to the three team records, the Eagles saw three first place showings to accompany the milestones.

At Lynchburg, sophomore Henry Brandstadter took first in the long jump with a mark of 7.18m and on the track, the group of freshman Graham Greene, sophomore Bryce Wurster, junior Jackson Price and senior Dawit Dean came in at 3:15.61 to win the 4x400m. In Rome, senior Audrey Johnson showed out in the triple jump as she won the event with a PR of 11.11m. Her mark is the 37th-best in DIII so far this spring and the fourth-best by an individual in program history.

Elsewhere at Berry, junior Caroline Hansen finished second in the 400m Hurdles at 1:07.35 while freshman Jayden Bai paced the Eagles in the men's race, taking seventh at 57.71. Senior Elle Haushalter was the team leader in the 1500m, placing fourth in a time of 4:53.38 with freshman Payton Fleming coming in right behind her in sixth at 4:58.60.

Rounding out the notable finishes on Friday were a trio of Eagles inside the top-11 in the 5000m at Berry: sophomore Lucas Moskovitz (7th, 15:24.62), sophomore Matthew McClure (8th, 15:27.27), and junior Haden Fulkerson (11th, 15:29.98); freshman Dijaye Carpenter (4th, 10.54m) and sophomore Simon Stumbris (5th, 13.19m) in the triple jumps at Berry; and graduate student Aiden Gilbert (6th, 6.88m) in the long jump and senior Lily Taylor in the mile (8th, 5:02.45) at Lynchburg.

The Eagles will wrap up competition at both meets on Saturday.
