MedaLana Smith was named an Assistant Coach for the Emory University Track and Field Team in August 2014.  Her primary coaching responsibility is working with the team's throwers.

In her first season with the program, she helped the men's outdoor team claim their first UAA championship since 2004 and was named as part of the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year. During the 2016 season, Smith helped Emory athletes to five All-UAA honors including one UAA titles.

Smith comes to Emory from the University of Mount Olive, a Division II program, where she served as the Assistant Coach of the Track and Field Team since 2011.   Prior to that, she was a volunteer assistant at High Point University and an intern Strength and Conditioning Coach with Division I High Point University, while earning her Masters of Science in Sports Studies.  Smith also served as an Assistant Track and Field Coach at Messiah College, her alma mater, from 2006-08.

Smith earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Messiah in 2006, recording top-ten marks in the program’s history in the shot put, hammer throw and discus throw, and serving as a team captain.
