(Nov. 24) - Senior middle Dani
Huffman was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA
Championship after helping the Eagles to the program's first-ever
title.
The 5-foot-11 middle hitter compiled 49 kills, a 31.4
hitting percentage and 19 total blocks over three matches. In
the semifinals against Ohio Northern, she chalked up a career-high
25 kills and paced the club with eight blocks. Against La
Verne in the championship contest, he lead the Eagles' offensive
attack with 13 terminations.
She ended the year with 436 kills, seventh on the school's seasonal
list.
(Nov. 17) - Freshman libero Brannan
O'Neill provided some stellar defensive play last weekend
in helping the Eagles to a pair of wins at the Trinity Regional
that enabled the squad to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the
fifth time in the past six years.
In a 3-1 win over Colorado College, O'Neill totaled a team-high 17
digs before chalking up a career-best 31 digs in a 3-2 victory over
Southwestern in the regional championship match. O'Neill's 31
digs tied the second-highest match total in school history and
enabled the Eagles to boost their season record to 32-6.
O'Neill has 513 digs to her credit this year, good for the No. 3
spot on the school's all-time seasonal list.
The Eagles will battle the College of St. Benedict on Thursday
(Nov. 20) in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
(Nov. 11) - Freshman setter Natalie
Schonefeld helped the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the
UAA Championships held Nov. 7-8 in St. Louis.
The 5-foot-7 Schonefeld averaged 10.4 assists in helping the Eagles
to a 3-1 record over the weekend. Her most significant output came
against Washington University where she recorded 43 assists, along
with seven digs and three blocks, in a five-game battle against the
Bears.
Schonefeld, who was named UAA Rookie of the Year, leads Emory and
the conference with a 10.57 assists per game average.
(Nov. 3) - Senior middle Dani
Huffman helped the Eagles to wins in two of three matches
at the Emory National Challenge.
In a 3-0 triumph over No. 1-ranked Juniata, Huffman tied for the
team lead with nine kills while contributing eight digs and four
blocks. She then again tied for team high with 10 kills in a
setback against Birmingham Southern. In a five-game decision
over Lee University, the 5-foot-11Huffman posted a career-high
tying 19 terminations along with a solid 33.3 hitting percentage
(19-6-39). In addition, she recorded 17 digs and seven blocks
as the No. 2 Eagles raised their overall slate to 27-5. All
totaled, Huffman hit 29.8 percent (38-12-87), registered 30 digs
and posted 13 total blocks (6-7) over the weekend.
So far this season, Dani leads the squad with a 35.8 hitting
percentage (299-73--632) and in blocks per game (0.96 bpg).
Emory, 27-5 on the year (7-0 UAA), returns to action, Nov. 7-8,
when it competes at the University Athletic Association
Championships in St. Louis.
(Oct. 20) - Senior right side Maggie
Baird played a key role in helping the Eagles to a 4-0
record at the UAA Round Robin II with stellar play both offensively
and defensively.
Over the course of 13 games, she recorded 34 kills (2.6 kpg), hit
54.7 percent (34-5-53) while finishing with 10 total blocks as
Emory raised its overall record to 25-4, 7-0 in the UAA. Against
No. 4 Washington University, she posted 12 terminations and three
blocks and tied for the team's high with nine kills against the
University of Rochester.
(Oct. 13) - Senior middle Dani
Huffman earned all-tournament honors at the Leopard
Invitational last weekend in helping the Eagles to a 2-1
record.
Playing in all 12 Emory games, Huffman recorded 41 kills (3.42
kpg), hit 38.7 percent (41-10-80), totaled 35 digs (2.9 dpg) and
nine blocks. In a four-game win over Claremont-Mudd Scripps,
she led all players with a season-high tying 18 kills while hitting
a keen 61.5 percent (18-2-26) before tying for the team high with
eight terminations in a setback to No. 1-ranked Juniata. In
the final match of the tourney against No. 3 and host La Verne,
Huffman was second high on the club with 15 kills while
contributing a career-best 28 digs.
Emory, 21-4 on the year, will play at the UAA Round Robin II,
hosted by Brandeis University, Oct. 18-19.
(Oct. 6) - Freshman setter Natalie
Schonefeld turned in a strong effort in helping the Eagles
to a 3-0 record at the UAA Round Robin I.
Schonefeld averaged 10.9 assists and 9.0 digs per game as Emory
came away with 3-0 wins over Brandeis, Chicago and NYU.
On the final day of action at the Round Robin, Schonefeld doled out
36 assists and chipped in nine digs against Chicago before
registering 35 assists and eight digs vs. NYU.
Through matches played Oct. 5, Schonefeld is averaging 10.1 assists
and 2.37 digs per game.
Emory will play at the University of La Verne Tournament, Oct.
10-11.
(Sept. 27) - Emory junior Vista
Murphy helped key a strong defensive effort in helping the
Eagles to a 3-1 triumph over No. 5 Trinity University. The win
boosted No. 2 Emory's overall ledger to 16-2.
The 5-foot-10 Murphy came up with 12 digs, second high on the
squad, which helped Emory limit the Tigers to just a 17.8 hitting
percentage.
So far this season, Murphy stands tied for second on the squad with
136 digs with her 2.27 digs per-game average ranking third.
Emory will play at Lee University on Sept. 30 before taking part in
the UAA Round Robin I in Pittsburgh the weekend of Oct. 4-5.
(Sept. 21) - Emory senior Maggie
Baird helped the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record and a
championship at the Emory National Invitational.
The 6-foot-1 Baird played in 10 games over the four matches and
recorded an outstanding 46.7 hitting percentage (22-4--39) while
posting eight total blocks.
In a 3-0 win over No. 7 Wittenberg, Baird tied for second on the
squad with eight kills while finishing with a team-best 58.3 attack
percentage. Earlier in the day, she notched six terminations and
six blocks against Maryville.
Maggie and her teammates will host No. 5-ranked Trinity on Friday,
Sept. 26, starting at 6:00 p.m.
(Sept. 15) - Emory senior Dani
Huffman helped the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record and a
championship at the Christopher Newport Invitational.
The 5-foot-11 Huffman played in all 15 games over the four matches
and recorded a 32.1 hitting percentage (35-8--84) while totaling 13
total blocks.
Huffman chalked up double-figure kills in matches against
Christopher Newport and Franklin & Marshall and tied for the
team high with 10 terminations in the F & M contest.
Dani and her teammates will host the Emory National Invitational,
Sept. 19-20.
(Sept. 8) - Emory junior Alysse
Meyer was named MVP of the Emory Classic, helping the
Eagles claim the championship with a 4-0 record.
The 6-foot outside hitter played in all 15 of the team's games over
the four matches and came up with a team-leading 71 kills (4.73
kpg) and hit 42.2 percent (71-11-142). She paced the team in kills
in three of the four matches including a 30-kills performance
against No. 18 Haverford, tying the second-highest match total in
school history and tying for the top spot for a four-game
match.
In addition to her offensive contributions, Meyer recorded a total
of 26 digs, nine in matches against Haverford and Southwestern, and
10 service aces.
(Sept. 3) - Emory sophomore Kelsey Krzyston
turned in a fine all-around opening weekend in helping the Eagles
to wins in three of five matches.
Kelsey played in all five matches and averaged 1.0 kills and 1.59
digs per game. In a five-game win against Berry College, she
recorded a career-high 16 kills and also doled out five service
aces. The Noblesville, Ind., native then helped the Eagles to a
five-game win over Illinois Wesleyan by registering 14 digs and
four aces.
Emory opens the home portion of its 2008 schedule this weekend
(Sept. 5-6) when it hosts the Emory Classic.
