Emory sophomore Jessica McAlvany has been named
the University Athletic Association Volleyball Co-Player of the
Week following her performance at the Emory Halloween
Tournament. She shares the honor with Trish McCutchan of Case
Western. It marks the second straight week and third time
this season that she has earned the award.
The 6-foot-1 McAlvany helped the No. 4-ranked Eagles to a 4-0
record last weekend as the squad captured the Emory Halloween
Tournament. McAlvany played in 10 of the team's 13 sets and
paced the team with 50 kills (5.00 kps) while hitting 45.5 percent
(50-10-88). In addition, she notched 13 digs and five block
assists as Emory raised its overall record to 30-5. She
blasted away for a match-best 21 terminations, her second-highest
effort of the year, and a 43.2 hitting percentage (21-5-37)
in a 3-0 triumph over ODAC regular-season champion Randolph-Macon
on Saturday before closing out the Tournament with a match-high 19
kills, a 51.6 attack percentage (19-3-31) and seven digs vs.
Birmingham Southern in a 3-1 triumph.
McAlvany leads the team with a 3.19 kills per set average and has
totaled 18 performances of double-figure kills this year.
Emory returns to action on Friday (Nov. 6) when it meets Brandeis
