The No. 3-ranked Emory University volleyball team put on a
dominant display in its opening match of the University Athletic
Association Round Robin I Saturday afternoon, posting a 3-0 win
over the University of Chicago. The Eagles boosted their
record to 16-2 following a 25-13, 25-12, 25-21 decision over the
Maroons. The UAA Round Robin I is being hosted by the University of
Rochester.
Junior Amelia McCall and sophomore Jessica McAlvany led a balanced
hitting attack with seven kills apiece. Senior Alysse Meyer
and freshman Alex Duhl contributed six terminations with Meyer
adding five service aces. The Eagles' defense played a key
role in the win, registering 20 total blocks. Sophomore
Brannan O'Neill paced the squad with 16 digs.
"We played very well defensively," said assistant coach Amanda
Welter. "Our serving and passing helped in keeping Chicago from
running its offense and led to some outstanding blocking
numbers."
Emory returns to action with matches against New York University
(9:00 a.m.) and Carnegie Mellon (11:00 a.m.).
