Emory Volleyball Captures Two Matches At Maryville Tournament

The No. 3-ranked Emory University volleyball team got off to a fine start at the Maryville College Tournament on Saturday as the Eagles recorded a pair of victories, defeating Lynchburg College, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-16), and No. 16 Southwestern University, 3-2 (24-26, 25-8, 20-25, 25-13, 15-9).  With the two triumphs, Emory moves to 3-0 on the year.

Senior Amelia McCall led a balanced Eagles’ offensive effort with 14 kills against the Hornets of Lynchburg.  Junior Jessica McAlvany and sophomore Breanah Bourque aided the cause by each chipping in 13 terminations.  Junior Natalie Schonefeld doled out 43 assists while junior Ali Wright helped spearhead a strong defensive effort at the net with five solo blocks.

In the day’s finale, Emory had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to secure the victory.  McCall once again racked up a team-high 14 kills while McAlvany turned in a strong all-around game with 14 successful attacks, 13 digs and two blocks.  Wright helped in the offensive department with 10 terminations while sophomore Alena Ransom totaled nine kills.  Senior Kelsey Krzyston picked up nine digs while Schonefeld registered 46 assists.

Emory continues play in the tournament on Sunday when it meets with Mount Saint Joseph and host Maryville College.
