Emory Volleyball Returns Helen Lin And Adds Scott Shelley To Coaching Staff

Emory University head volleyball coach Jenny McDowell  has announced the return of Helen Lin and the addition of Scott Shelley to the Eagles' coaching staff for the 2014 season.  

Lin, a former professional volleyball player in China, joined the Emory staff in the fall of 2013 and helped the squad to an overall record of 34-5 that included a berth in the Division III national semifinals.  A native, of Shanghai, China, Lin played on the Fujian-Province Professional Volleyball team for 10 years as a full-time starter.  She was a right-side hitter who held the highest hitting percentage over all other hitters of during her career.  Collegiately, she played four years on Fudan University Volleyball team and helped that program to one championship and a pair of runner-ups efforts in the National College League.

Shelley, who joined up with the Eagles this past spring, is currently in his fourth season with A5 Mizuno Volleyball in Atlanta, where he serves as a master coach, strategic planner, lead instructor, and the assistant coach for the 18-1 team under A5 club director, Bob Westbrook.    Shelley has been a part of the A5 program since 2011, serving as assistant coach for the 18-1, 17-1 and 17-2 teams.  In 2012, Shelley served as the assistant coach for the 17-1 team (lead by Gary Jensen) that placed 5th at both the AAU and USAV National Championships, in addition to finishing first at the SRVA Regional Championships.  Prior to coming to Atlanta, Shelley worked with Cleveland Volleyball Company, serving as a lead instructor of summer camps and individual instruction.  Before CVC, Shelley served as a Co-Head Coach of the 16-1 team for the KC Power Volleyball Club.  Shelley's 16-1 team (together with Co-Head Coach Krista Newman) won the 2010 Heart of America Regional Championship and qualified for the 2010 USAV Nationals in every division (American, National and Open).
 

Shelley earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Missouri in 2007 with a dual major in Finance and Real Estate.  He received his Masters in Business Administration from Missouri in 2009, with an emphasis in Finance.

Emory will open the season the weekend of Aug. 30-31 when it competes at the Berry College (GA) Invitational.
