2003 Women's Cross Country Season Recap

Emory University won its 13th consecutive NCAA Division III regional championship and qualified for the NCAA national meet for the 13th year in a row. The Eagles placed 21st at the national championships.

The Eagles' 13 consecutive appearances in the national meet is the second-longest active streak in the nation in Division III. This was Emory's 15th all-time appearance in the national championships, fourth best in Division III history.

At the national meet, the Eagles finished ahead of teams ranked 16th and 20th nationally in the coaches' poll. Of Emory's seven runners at the national meet, three were freshmen and only one, its seventh runner, graduates this spring.

Five Eagles earned spots on the all-region team. This marks the seventh consecutive year the Eagles had at least five runners on the all-region team. All five of the team's all-region honorees return next season.

The Eagles placed third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) championships. This marked the team's 13th consecutive top-three finish at the conference meet. The Eagles had three all-conference runners, including one first-team honoree.

Emory won the Georgia Collegiate Championships for the fourth time in school history. Nine Eagle runners finished with times under 20 minutes, the most in school history in a 5,000-meter race. For the second time in three years, six Eagles made the all-state team.

Amy DiBianca finished first overall at the Georgia Collegiate Championships, becoming only the second Emory runner to win the non-Division I individual state title. DiBianca became only the second freshman in Emory history to make the all-conference first team by finishing fourth out of 78 runners at the UAA championships.

Adele Blum
Prior to the 2003 season, Blum's never finished higher than ninth on the team at any meet. This season, Blum finished among the team's top seven runners in six out of her seven races, and as high as fifth. As a result, she was chosen the team's Most Improved Performer. The senior recorded the highest finish of her collegiate career, 15th out of 104 runners, at the Georgia Collegiate Championships. Blum ran her career best time of 19 minutes and 39 seconds at the Southeastern Classic. That time was one minute and 17 seconds faster than her best time last season. Blum compiled a season record of 693 wins and 238 losses.

Dorothy Boone
Boone, a co-captain, competed in the NCAA national meet for the third consecutive year, finishing third on the team. For the third consecutive year, she made both the all-region and all-state teams. Her highest finish of the season was at the NCAA regional championships where she finished sixth out of 157 runners. The junior was one of Emory's top four finishers in all eight meets and finished in the top 20 overall in six races. Boone ran her best time of the season, 19 minutes and six seconds, at the Southeastern Classic. She compiled a record of 927 wins and 216 losses.

Sarah Couyoumjian
Couyoumjian finished fifth on the team in four of her five races this season. Her best finish and time came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships where she finished 11th out of 104 runners with a time of 19 minutes and 19 seconds. By finishing 11th, the freshman made the all-state team. Couyoumjian amassed a record of 607 wins and 91 losses.

Jennifer Cronin
Cronin was Emory's fifth finisher at the NCAA national meet. Her best time of 19 minutes and 56 seconds came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships where she placed 20th out of 104 runners. She finished among the top 10 Emory runners in every race this season.

Angela Davie
Davie finished second on the team at the NCAA national meet with a time of 23 minutes and 42 seconds. She placed 84th overall out of 213 runners at the meet. The junior made the all-region, all-state, and all-conference teams for the third consecutive year. Davie placed in the top 10 overall in seven of eight races and was in the top five overall in four races. She was the top finisher for Emory four times. Davie's best time and finish came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships where she finished third, out of 104 runners, with a time of 18 minutes and 27 seconds, the 17th best time in Emory history for 5,000 meters. Davie finished the season with a record of 1,025 wins and 118 losses, and an average time of 18:58, best on the team.

Amy DiBianca
DiBianca was Emory's top finisher at the NCAA national meet, finishing 58th out of 213 runners. Her time of 23 minutes and 22 for the 6,000 meter course seconds was the third fastest ever by an Eagle at the national meet. DiBianca garnered all-region honors by finishing seventh overall at the NCAA regional meet. DiBianca recorded the fifth-fastest time ever by an Eagle at 6,000 meters when she finished fourth overall at the University Athletic Association (UAA) championships with a time of 22:49. By finishing fourth, DiBianca became only the second freshman in Emory history to make the all-conference first team. She was the second Emory runner ever to win the individual non-Division I state title, earning her a spot on the all-state team with a time of 18:25 at the Georgia Collegiate Championships. DiBianca was Emory's top finisher in three races during the season, and placed among the top 10 runners overall in seven of eight races. She compiled the most wins on the team with 1,052 wins against 91 losses for a .920 win percentage. DiBianca was honored as the team's Most Valuable Performer.

Caroline Hagedorn
Hagedorn was Emory's top finisher at the NCAA regional championship. The freshman finished fifth overall out of 157 runners, earning a place on the all-region team. Hagedorn also earned spots on the all-state and all-conference teams. Her best time came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships where she ran an 18:55, good for fifth overall in the race out of 104 runners. Hagedorn was among the top 15 finishers overall in seven races this season, and was among Emory's top three finishers in six races. Hagedorn was chosen the team's Most Outstanding Newcomer.

Emily Hoyt
Hoyt, a co-captain on the team, ran at the NCAA national meet for the third consecutive year. The senior was the team's sixth finisher at the nationals. Hoyt's best time and finish came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships, where she finished 19th overall, out of 104 runners, with a time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds.

Erin Manning
Manning, a junior, was the Eagles' fourth finisher at the NCAA national meet. Her time of 24 minutes and 26 seconds for the 6,000-meter course was a 51-second improvement over her time in the same race last season. Manning finished15th at the NCAA regional championships to earn a spot on the all-region team for the second consecutive season. Her best time and place came at the Georgia Collegiate Championships, where she earned a spot on the all-state team, finishing 12th out of 104 runners with a time of 19:24, a career-best time for 5,000 meters. Manning was a top-seven finisher for Emory in all eight races this season.
