2007 Athletes Of The Week

(Nov. 19) -- Junior Natalie Waryck paced the Eagles' effort this past weekend at the NCAA Championships, finishing 57th overall (37th scoring position) out of 280 runners.

Waryck covered the 6K course at the St. Olaf Trails in a time of 22:35 which represented her season best effort. Waryck's performance helped Emory to a 17th-place finish out of 32 teams and marked the second time in six meets this year that she ranked as the team's No. 1 runner.


(Nov. 12) -- Senior Lauren Shores helped the Eagles to a first-place finish out of 28 teams at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional this past weekend hosted by Christopher Newport University.  Shores topped the Emory contingent and finished third overall in the 186-runner field with a 6K time of 23:15.  Her performance marked the third time in four meets this year that she has finished first among Emory runners and enabled her to land All-Region honors for the fourth straight year.  Emory finished the competition with 52 points while runner-up Trinity totaled 54. The team championship allows John Curtin and his squad an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.   The regional title represented Emory's third straight and 16th in the last 17 years.


(Oct. 7) -- Emory University senior Lauren Shores spearheaded a dominant performance by the Eagles at the Pre-Nationals this past weekend as the squad posted a first-place finish out of 14 teams. Shores led the Emory pack over the 6K course with a time of 23:27.8, good for third place overall in the 154-runner field. Lauren's effort represented the second straight meet that she ranked as the team's top runner as she finished 19th overall out of 80 contestants at the Bulldog Stampede (Sept. 23).


(Sept. 24) -- Emory University senior Lauren Shores turned in a strong effort at the Bulldog Stampede, helping the Eagles to a fourth-place finish out of nine teams. Shores, who was making her season debut, led all Emory runners and placed 19th out of 80 runners with a 5K time of 18:51.7. Shores' time represented the best effort by any Emory through three meets. Emory finished the Bulldog Stampede with 84 points and trailed only Division I teams Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn.


(Sept. 16) -- Freshman Jenny Feinberg, competing in just her second meet, helped the Eagles to a third-place finish out of 19 teams at the Georgia State Invitational. Jenny was the top Emory runner and finished 11th overall in the 171-runner with a 5K time of 20:10. She was one of four Eagles to finish among the top 23 performers. The Eagles' finished the event with 99 points.


(Sept. 3) -- Junior Melissa Jones helped the Eagles get their season off on the right foot with a strong effort at the University of South Invitational. Melissa was the top Emory performer and came in sixth out of 149 entrants with a 5K time of 19:49. Jones, a 2006 All-American, spearheaded an Emory effort that saw it place four runners among the top 16 finishers.
