2008 Athletes of the Week

(Nov. 3) - Emory freshman Tess Gallegos helped the Eagles to a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships last weekend in Conyers, Georgia.

Gallegos led all Eagles and finished fifth overall in the 76-runner field with a 6K time of 22:06. It represented the first time this season that she had ranked as the team's No. 1 runner in five events. In addition, her finish enabled her to claim First Team All-UAA honors, one of two Emory runners to earn that distinction. Emory's third-place performance represented the 18th straight year that the program had finished in third position or higher.

Emory returns to action on Nov. 15 when it competes at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships in Seguine, Texas.

(Oct. 20) - Emory senior Melissa Jones helped the Eagles to a first-place finish at the Foothills Invitational last weekend in Oxford, Alabama.

Jones topped the 94-runner field with a 5K time of 18:17. Her performance spearheaded an Emory performance that saw it record 24 points, topping the 11-team field. She has been among Eagles' top two finishers in all four of her competitions this season.

Emory returns to action on Nov. 1 when it hosts the University Athletic Championships in Conyers, Ga.

(Oct. 6) - Senior Melissa Jones paced the Eagles' effort at the Auburn University Invitational last weekend, crossing the finish line in 73rd place out of 206 runners.

Jones checked in with a time of 18:10 as Emory, the lone Division III squad in the Orange Section of the Invitational, finished 11th out of 23 squads.

Emory returns to action on Oct. 18 when it competes at the Front Runner Invitational hosted by UT-Chattanooga.

(Sept. 29) - Senior Natalie Waryck paced the Eagles' effort at the Roy Griak Invitational last weekend, crossing the finish line in 37th place out of 497 runners.

Waryck checked in with a 6K time 23:59 as Emory finished 16th out of 36 squads.

The Eagles will compete at the Auburn University Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4.

(Sept. 22) - Emory senior Melissa Jones helped the Eagles to a third-place finish out of eight teams at the Commodore Invitational this past weekend.

Jones paced all Emory runners and crossed the line in 10th place overall in the 77-runner field with a 5K time of 19:03.77. Jones, a Second Team All-UAA selection last year, is a three-time all-region honoree.

(Sept. 8) - Emory senior Natalie Waryck finished 9th overall out of 149 runners and was the third D-III finisher at the 28th Annual Sewanee Invitational.

Waryck's showing led the Eagles to a second-place team finish in their season opener, falling only to Division I Mississippi State.  Natalie, an All-UAA performer last year in cross country, covered the 5k course in 19:19, a personal course record for her.
