Emory Women's Cross Country Finishes Third At UAA Championships

The No. 19-ranked Emory women's cross country team turned in a third-place performance today at the 25th annual University Athletic Association Championships.  The meet was held at Montrose Park in Chicago.

The Eagles totaled 85 points and trailed Washington University, which defended its championship with 25 points, and runner-up New York University's 68 points.  Host Chicago was fourth with 114 points while Case Western closed out the top five (118 pts.).

Senior Tess Gallegos brought home Second Team All-UAA honors after leading the team and finishing 13th overall in the 72-runner field with a 6k time of 23:04. It marked the third time in her career that the Kennesaw, Ga., native had earned All-UAA recognition and her second second-team berth.  Senior Sara Gelb was the next Eagle to check in with her showing of 23:13 good for 15th place.  Senior Sabrina Jeppson (23:24) ranked 18th while junior Melanie Frank was close behind in 20th with a time of 23:28. Rounding out the team's scorers was freshman Stephanie Crane who clocked a time of 23:29, good for the 21st spot.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when it competes at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional in Seguin, Texas.
