Emory Women's Cross Country Third At UNG Invitational

The No. 21-ranked Emory women's cross country team posted with a third-place finish Saturday morning at the University of North Georgia Invitational. The meet was conducted at the UNG Gainesville campus in Oakwood.

The Eagles closed out the meet with 55 points.  Host North Georgia captured the top spot with 33 points, narrowly edging runner-up SCAD Atlanta's mark of 34 points.  Albany State (185 pts.) and Dalton State (190 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Emory raced to three of the top 10 scoring positions, led by freshman Carrie McIntyre who spearheaded the Emory pack while finishing seventh out of 98 entries with a 5k mark of 19:13.  Rookie Abby Durfee was No. 2 on the squad and right behind McIntyre in the No. 8 spot with a showing of 19:18. Junior Kayle Slade was the next Emory representative to cross the finish line with her effort of 19:22 slotting her 10th. Rounding out the Emory scorers were senior Megan Waples (19:45, 13th place) and freshman Caroline Johnson (19:58, 17th place).

Emory returns to action on Saturday, September 30, when it competes at the JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
