The Emory women’s cross country team affirmed its reputation as a top-tier program throughout the 2019 season, culminating in the school’s 15th straight appearance in the NCAA D-III Championships and 28th over the past 29 campaigns.
Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Linh Nguyen, the Eagles earned an automatic spot in the Championships after registering a second-place finish out of 33 teams at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships, the 29th straight year that it had ranked second or better at that event. All five of Emory’s scorers raced to all-region accolades, led by junior Susie Martin who crossed the finish line in the No. 5 spot in the 239-runner field with a personal-best 6K time of 21:43. Other all-region performers included juniors Carrie McIntyre, Ana Morris and Abby Durfee and freshman Leah Clark.
Martin anchored the squad for most of the season, ranking as the Eagle’s No. 1 runner in five of the six meets she competed in. She raced to Second Team All-UAA honors after placing ninth overall at the conference championship.
