Emory Athletics to Celebrate Division III Week - April 13-19

Emory University will celebrate NCAA Division III Week, which begins Monday, April 13th and continues until Sunday, April 19th. This week is an opportunity for the 450 member schools of NCAA DIII to recognize and promote the achievements of student-athletes on and off the field. Emory University is joining in the nation-wide celebration by highlighting the academic, athletic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular achievements of our own student-athletes.

More than 195,000 student-athletes make up Division III, the largest NCAA division both in number of participants and number of schools. Emory University's student-athletes thrive in the DIII community with approximately 400 student-athletes playing on 19 intercollegiate teams. Emory has a total of 27 Division III National Championship titles and 206 University Athletic Association Conference Championships. We have finished among the top 10 Division III programs in the Director's Cup in 18 of the last 19 years. The Director's Cup honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletic program, achieving success in many men’s and women’s sports.

Emory athletes have distinguished themselves both on the field and in the classroom, racking up over 1,092 All-America honors since 1983-84, 192 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 117 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships including 100 since 2000 which is the second most during that period behind only Stanford University.

The true essence of Division III athletics is the full integration of student-athletes into the campus culture and to stand for the three D’s of the Division - to discover, develop, and dedicate. This week is dedicated to celebrating our student athletes and supporting them to, “follow your passion and develop your potential.”

In addition, Emory student athletes plan on honoring health care workers later this week while Emory athletics is planning on virtually celebrating on social media all spring seniors that were not able to have a senior day this season on Friday, April 17th to go along with the currently running Class of 2020 Senior Showcase series on emoryathletics.com.
