Four Emory University student-athletes were chosen as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced Monday afternoon after leading their teams at their respective NCAA postseason competitions this past weekend.
Earning the weekly honors were junior Annika Urban for women's cross country, senior Charlie Scruton for men's soccer and senior Tara Martin and junior Cassie Srb in women's volleyball.
Urban posted a new personal record in the 6k on her way to a first place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships. Urban's time of 21:43.1 beat out everyone in the field of 163 runners by over a minute. Her time also marked the seventh best time in program history. The Eagles placed first in the meet, in large part due to Urban's performance, which marks the first time since 2018 that Emory has been crowned regional champions.
Scruton scored the equalizing goal and knocked in a pivotal penalty kick against Centre in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Scruton scored the first and only goal for Emory over the weekend on a beautiful header off a big cross into the box. Later in the game in PK's with the Eagles trailing 3-2, Scruton calmly put in the tying PK that would play a huge role in the Eagles eventual win.
Martin led all Emory players with 37 kills to help lead the Eagles to a spot in this past weekend's Atlanta, Georgia regional final. Martin had a stellar performance in the NCAA Second Round against UT-Dallas posting a team-high 16 kills on a .385 hitting percentage to go along with nine digs and two blocks. For her efforts, Martin was awarded a spot on the region's all-tournament team.
Srb had an excellent NCAA Atlanta Regional Tournament averaging 11.6 assist per set on her way to earning an All-Region Tournament nod. Srb was on the court for every single point Emory played throughout the tournament and her rock solid play was a large part of the reason the Eagles advanced to the regional final.
It is the first weekly honor for Urban in her cross country career and third overall while this is Scruton's second weekly award this season and for his career. For the volleyball duo, this is Srb's second straight honor and third overall and for Martin, it is her first this season and fourth ever.
