Three Eagles Selected as UAA Athletes of the Week

Three Emory University student-athletes were named Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association Monday afternoon.

Junior Jackson Klutznick of the men's golf team was named the UAA Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Women's tennis senior Christina Watson earned her fourth UAA career weekly honor and first of the season while men's track & field sophomore Kenya Sei earned his first-ever UAA Athlete of the Week selection.

Klutznick won his second-ever tournament as an individual on the way to leading the Eagles to a 25-stroke victory over the competition at the Emory Invitational. Klutznick posted a three-round score of 208 (70-72-66) which is the second best three round total in program history and his third round score of 66 ties for the third best individual round in program history. To go along with his record-setting day, Klutznick also led the field in total birdies (19) and had the best score of all golfers on par-4 and par-5 holes. Klutznick paced all golfers by at least four strokes and helped lead the Eagles to a dominant victory over four ranked opponents including No. 4 Babson.

Despite the Eagles going 0-3 as a team against three top-10 programs from the NESCAC, Watson went 3-0 at No. 3 singles and 2-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot to highlight Emory this weekend. Watson was a straight set winner against her Amherst (6-1, 6-2) and Tufts (6-3, 6-3) competition and added a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 decision against Wesleyan's Venia Yeung. In doubles, Watson and Ana Cristina Perez were 8-5 and 8-3 winners against the Mammoths and Jumbos No. 1 doubles squads with the lone loss of the weekend coming on Saturday as they fell 8-5 to WU's Caitlyn Ferrante/Sasha Gaeth pairing, 8-5.

Sei excelled in both the hammer and discus events at the Berry College Field Day Invitational this past weekend. Sei threw for a distance of 50.91m in the hammer throw event to finish in second place at the meet and with the seventh best distance in program history. Sei also competed in the discus throw where he recorded an additional second place finish of the weekend, this time throwing for a distance of 40.18m.
