The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for May 9th – May 15th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Women's Golf:

The Emory University women's golf team is set to compete at the 2022 NCAA DIII Golf Championships over the course of this week. The No. 1 ranked Eagles will compete against 29 other teams at the 5,866-yard, par-72 Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX from Tuesday, May 10th to Friday, May 13th. Emory is sending freshman Sharon Mun, freshman Ellen Dong, freshman Heejo Hyun, sophomore Irene Wang and sophomore Mariana Chong to compete for a chance at the DIII golf crown. The Eagles come into the tournament seeded first with conference foe, No. 2 ranked Carnegie Mellon seeded second and No. 6 ranked Williams earning the third seed. This marks the Eagles second consecutive appearance in the NCAA DIII Championships after earning a seventh place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships. After 54-holes of competition, the 29-team competition field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete in the final day of competition.

Men's Golf:

The Emory University men's golf team will travel to Howey-in-the-Hills, FL to compete in the NCAA DIII Golf Championships over the course of this week. The No. 2 ranked Eagles were one of 43 teams selected to compete at the 6,748-yard, par-72 Mission Inn Resort & Club course. The Eagles were one of two teams, along with Babson, to be selected into Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the qualifications for automatic qualification. The Eagles will be sending senior Max Schwarz, senior Logan Ryan, junior Jackson Klutznick, freshman Tony Li and senior Davis Hingtgen to compete for a chance at the team championship. Emory will be making its sixth consecutive and 24th total appearance at nationals in the 37-year history of the program. This marks the eighth appearance in eleven seasons under the stewardship of head coach John Sjoberg, most recently finishing sixth at last year's championships. After 36-holes of competition, the 43-team field will be cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete in the final 36-holes of competition.

Women's Tennis:

The Emory University women's tennis team was selected to take part in the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Championship on Monday afternoon, marking the 37th consecutive season in which the tournament has been played that the Eagles have advanced to the postseason. The No. 8 ranked Eagles will play host to the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the Woodruff PE Center tennis courts. Emory earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of Transylvania and Piedmont in the second round on Saturday, May 14th with the third round set to take place on Sunday, May 15th. Otterbein and Webster will match up in the first round with the winner set to take on No. 10 ranked Sewanee in the second round.

Men's Tennis:

The Emory University men's tennis team was selected to compete in the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championships Monday afternoon, representing the 32nd consecutive year in which the tournament has been played that the Eagles have qualified for the postseason. The No. 13 ranked Eagles will travel to Fredericksburg, VA to take on No. 18 ranked Mary Washington in the second round of the championships. The Eagles earned a first round bye by virtue of their regular season performance. Also being played in Fredericksburg is the first round matchup of St. Mary's and Penn State - Behrend with the winner set to take on No. 8 ranked Trinity in the second round.

Track & Field:

The Emory University track & field team will begin to wind down the regular season as they travel to Cleveland, TN this weekend for the Lee University Last Chance Meet. The one-day meet is set to kickoff at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning with the men's hammer throw. The Eagles will attempt to place athletes under the cutline of their individual events nationally to qualify for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships at the end of May. Junior Annika Urban showed out last week running a 4:35.38 in the 1,500m run at Montreat College which is the sixth fastest time in program history and the 23rd fastest in the nation this season. Graduate student Liam Fost had an excellent showing at the Tennessee Classic where he ran a 48.60 400m dash to finish in fourth place and post his second fastest time of the season.
