Stephanie Shulman & Mara Rodriguez Named UAA Athletes of the Week

For the second consecutive week members of the Emory University women's soccer and women's tennis programs were honored as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week with the latest winners being graduate student Mara Rodriguez and senior Stephanie Shulman.

Rodriguez had possibly the best game of her collegiate career Friday night, recording a hat trick in Emory's 5-1 win at Maryville. The three-goal performance was the first hat trick by an Emory soccer player since October 17, 2018 and was also the first three goals of Rodriguez's career.

Shulman captured the ITA Regional singles title in convincing fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Sewanee's Alice Hall in the championship match 6-1, 6-1. The win was the exclamation point on a dominating regional tournament for the senior as Shulman won all four matches that were played in straight sets, only losing more than two games in a set once all weekend. She added a 1-1 record in doubles with classmate Alexa Goetz, advancing to the round of 16 of the main draw.

The weekly award is the second in Shulman in her career and first this year and for Rodriguez it is her first honor as a member of the Eagles.

The women's soccer team will be back on the field Saturday afternoon, hosting WashU in the UAA opener while women's tennis returns to the courts October 7-9 with the Georgia Southern Shootout.
