Four Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Four Emory University student-athletes were named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon as the month of October came to a close.

Juniors Carly Wallace and Amanda Meyer swept the volleyball honors for their first-ever weekly honors following a dominating showing at the Emory National Invitational while senior Annika Urban continued her historic season to claim her fifth weekly award of the season. Sophomore Prayaag Oruganti rounds out the weekly winners, securing his first career honor as a member of the men's golf program.

Continuing her absolutely incredible senior season, Urban was crowned the individual champion at the UAA Championships on Saturday. The win marked the first individual champion for the Eagles since 2001 and was the fifth individual win for Urban this season as she has gone 5-for-5 so far. She posted a time of 21:14.4 to win the conference title, outpacing the rest of the field by over 20 seconds.

Wallace was named the Tournament MVP at the Emory National Invitational as she helped spur the Eagles to a perfect 3-0 record including a four-set win over No. 8 ranked Berry College. Wallace led the team in kills in two of the three matches, including a massive 20-kill performance, an Eagles' season-high, on an incredible .419 hitting percentage (20-2--43) against Berry. Wallace also protected the net with a previously unseen ferocity as she totaled nine blocks between the three matches including a team-high four against Oglethorpe. Her defensive prowess was also on display with 36 combined digs including 15 in the Berry match to give her the double-double with kills and digs.

Meyer joined Wallace on the All-Tournament team with an outstanding performance of her own over the weekend. Meyer was special defensively combining for 18 blocks on the weekend, including eight against Birmingham-Southern which is tied for the seventh most in a four-set match in program history. Meyer was also the team's most efficient attacker as she led the team with a .328 attacking percentage while having over nine kills in each match, including a team-high 10 against Oglethorpe.

Sophomore Prayaag Oruganti became the first Eagle to win an individual crown at a tournament this season with his win at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. Oruganti carded a 139 (70-69) on the back of three eagles across the 36-hole tournament. Oruganti's score ties for the sixth best two-round score in program history and with his performance, Oruganti helped the Eagles to a second place finish as a team at the Invitational.
