Four Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Four different Eagles collected their first-ever UAA Athlete of the Week honor on Monday with senior Tyler Miller and freshman Mackenzie Duford sweeping the softball awards and graduate students Charlie James and Marianne Allard winning for men's tennis and women's swimming.

James went 2-0 at the No. 4 singles spot and was 2-0 with Ryan Glanville at No. 2 doubles as Emory returned in the spring with a pair of 7-2 wins over #33 Sewanee and #20 Kenyon. James won both his singles matches in straight sets, winning by 6-3, 6-2 decision vs. Sewanee and 6-3, 6-3 vs. Kenyon. In doubles, the Eagle duo earned 8-4 wins in both matches.

Allard highlighted the Eagles at the Emory Invitational over the weekend, leading the team with three NCAA B Cuts in the last chance meet. Allard lowered her times in three different events and now stands 24th nationally in the 200 IM (2:04.81), 19th in the 400 IM (4:26.70) and 23rd in the 200 Breast (2:19.18).

Miller and Duford paced the Emory softball team in its season opening weekend. At the plate, Miller racked up eight RBI on seven hits with three multi-hit games as the Eagles went 2-2 against LaGange and Pacific Lutheran. She provided the power on Saturday, launching two home runs and totaling seven RBI as the Eagles swept LaGrange in the opener. While Miller shined offensively Duford excelled in the circle, striking out nine and only walking one in 16 innings of work. She earned the win in her debut in the opening, going the distance in the 11-inning, extra-inning affair with the Panthers.

Men's Tennis is back home on Tuesday against Tennessee Wesleyan before taking part in the ITA National Indoors Championship this weekend. Softball will take on local foe Agnes Scott in a pair of games this week while Allard and her swimming & diving teammates continue to prepare for the upcoming NCAA Championships next month.
