Four More Eagles Tabbed UAA Athletes of the Week

Four Emory University student athletes have been named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week on Monday as announced by the conference office.

Emory softball led the way for the second week in a row with Senior Tyler Miller and freshman Mackenzie Duford being named hitter and pitcher of the week respectively. Senior Lucas Bumgarner received another honor being named men's co-diver of the week while senior Ellis Schwartz picked up the first Athlete of the Week honor for Emory baseball.

Schwartz had a monster weekend for the Eagles, going 8-for-16 with five extra base hits and 13 RBI as Emory swept Oglethorpe. Schwartz had at least two hits and two RBI in all three wins and had a day for the ages on Sunday. In the finale, Schwartz's set Emory single-game records with three home runs and eight RBI as the team won convincingly.

Duford continues to be a force for the Eagles starting both games this week against Agnes Scott. She tossed four innings each game, striking out nine batters and not allowing a walk. She only allowed one run in eight innings and posted a 7.88 K/7 percentage this week.

Once again, Miller led the Eagles offensively this week, even with a rain delay pausing Thursday's game until Saturday. She recorded five hits, four of those coming in the first game. She also had two homeruns, seven RBIs and totaled 12 bases on the week.

Bumgarner continued his reign as the top diver in Region II, sweeping both events at the NCAA regionals this weekend. Bumgarner posted a winning score of 481.30 on the 1-meter on Friday before cruising to a nearly 100-point victory on the 3-meter on Saturday, winning with a score of 593.25.

Softball and baseball are back home this Tuesday, February 28 to face Rose-Hulman. Bumgarner will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina from March 15-18 to compete in the NCAA Division III Diving Championships.
