Four Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Four Emory University student-athletes were recognized as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon for their performances in competition over the past week.

Senior Annika Urban earned her 14th weekly honor and ninth this academic year for making history at the NCAA Championships while sophomore Sharon Mun earned her fifth career weekly honor after helping the women's golf team to its second straight UAA Championships. Seniors Ellis Schwartz and Mike Golob swept the baseball honors after leading the Eagles to a 3-2 week. It is the second honor for Schwartz this year and the first-ever for Golob.

Urban cemented her Emory and NCAA legacy on Saturday as she became the first Eagle to win an indoor national championship in program history. Urban ran a NCAA Championship record time of 4:43.17 to win the mile title before returning to the track less than two hours later to finish third in the 3000m run at 9:32.05, the highest finish by an Eagle in the event in team history. Her two All-America performances carries Emory to a 12th place finish at the NCAA Championships - the third-best finish at indoor NCAAs in team history.

Mun was named the UAA Tournament MVP by virtue of helping lead the Eagles to their second consecutive conference title. Mun dominated all weekend winning her first match against NYU 3&1 before putting on a show in the final defeating her Carnegie Mellon opponent 5&4. This marks Mun's second selection to the UAA All-Tournament Team in her strong start to her Eagles career.

Schwartz led the Eagles in runs, hits and RBI as the team went 3-2 this week against Covenant, Wittenberg and #1 Birmingham-Southern. Schwartz had at least one hit in all five games, including a three-hit outing on Wednesday in a 6-4 win over WU, and drove in three runs in the team's rout of WU on Tuesday. On the mound, Golob spun seven innings of relief across two games this past week, going 1-0 while allowing one unearned run to go along with five strikeouts against Covenant and BSC. Golob tossed 4.1 shutout frames on Monday to earn the win against the Scots before returning to action on Saturday with 2.2 innings with three strikeouts, giving up a solo unearned run, as the Eagles fell to the top-ranked Panthers.

Baseball returns to the diamond Tuesday afternoon, hosting Huntingdon, while women's golf will make the trip out west for the Patriot Invitational early next week. For Urban and her track & field teammates, the Eagles open the outdoor season this weekend with the Emory Spring Break Classic at home.
