The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for September 11th – September 17th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men's Soccer:

Behind another stellar weekend from senior goalkeeper Peter Wagner and a brace from graduate student Colton Myers, the Eagles won both games in Oregon this past weekend. After a successful trip to the west coast, the Emory men's soccer team (2-0-2) will head to Richmond, Virginia for the Simms/Flowers Classic this weekend for a few marquee matchups. The Eagles will take on two pre-season top-25 teams this weekend, with No. 16 Catholic and No. 4 Mary Washington due up next on the schedule.

  • Friday, September 15th – vs Catholic – 5:00 PM – City Stadium (Richmond, VA)
  • Sunday, September 17th – vs Mary Washington – 1:30 PM – City Stadium (Richmond, VA)

Women's Soccer:

Emory women's soccer (2-1-0) suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday to Hartford, despite a penalty kick goal off the foot of senior Emma Cornejo. The Eagles will look to get back in the win column, with two matches on the schedule this weekend including their annual clash with rival Lynchburg. Graduate student forward Kylie Hall is currently tied for Emory's career assists record with 31. Hall will have two opportunities to claim sole possession of the record, with Illinois Wesleyan set to visit the Eagles on Friday as well as a chance to do it on the road against Lynchburg on Sunday. Despite their first loss of the season this past weekend, the Eagles are still outshooting opponents 119 to 10 through three games in the young season.

Women's Volleyball:

Emory volleyball (6-0) is back in action at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Friday after a dominant trip to California. The Eagles remained unbeaten, winning all three matches in convincing fashion. Through six matches under first-year head coach Brianna Jones, Emory has won 18 of the 20 sets it has played in. 2022 All-UAA Honorable Mention Madison Cail has had an impressive start to her junior season, with a .481 hitting percentage and 2.25 kills per set through six games. Cail and the Eagles will look to continue their winning streak this weekend as they are set to take on undefeated and crosstown foe Oglethorpe, who have dropped just two sets over the course of four matches this season.

Men's Cross Country:

After having the past weekend off, the Emory men's cross country team will head to Spartanburg, South Carolina for the Converse Kickoff. The Eagles had a successful opening meet, finishing third out of five teams while receiving impressive performances from freshmen Kirin Karver and Ezra Shilling-Rabin. This will be the first meet at the 8k distance this season.

  • Saturday, September 16th – Converse Kickoff – 9:45 AM – Milliken Research Center (Spartanburg, SC)

Women's Cross Country:

The Emory women's cross country team will also head to Spartanburg, South Carolina for the Converse Kickoff. Graduate student Brigid Hanley had a stellar first meet with the Eagles at the Stan Sims opener, finishing 8th out of 81 total runners. As a collective, the Eagles finished fourth out of six total teams. The upcoming meet will be the first race at the 6k distance this season.
