Emily Kantrovitz & Deborah Hong Claim UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

Emory University junior Deborah Hong and sophomore Emily Kantrovitz were named the latest University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

The honor is Hong's second in a row, and now has three weekly awards in her career with all coming this season. For Kantrovitz, this marks her first career weekly honor.

Hong helped the Eagles to a 3-0 win over the No. 12 ranked Berry Vikings Saturday evening to remain perfect on the season at 11-0. She totaled 20 digs on the day, the sixth best of her career bringing her season average to 5.08 digs per set. Hong is now just seven digs away from 200 this season.

Kantrovitz won her first ITA South Regional singles title on Sunday afternoon after defeating fellow teammate and doubles partner Ana Cristina Perez in the championship match. Kantrovitz started the tournament on Friday quickly earning two wins in straight sets before completing the same feat on Saturday afternoon to earn a spot in the semifinals. She defeated fellow teammate Alyssa Margolin in the semifinals to earn her spot in the finals before earning the championship with a 6-1, 6-4 decision. In doubles, Kantrovitz and Perez advanced to the championship match before falling in straight sets to a team out of Sewanee.

Hong and her Eagle teammates look to stay unbeaten as they host Maryville Friday afternoon at 5pm. For Kantrovitz, she is set to head to the ITA Cup beginning October 12th in Rome, Georgia.
