The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for October 9th – 15th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men's Golf:

The No. 1 ranked Emory men's golf team will start the week in Ligonier, Pennsylvania for the Tartan Invitational before competing in the Golfweek DIII Invitational over the weekend. The Eagles are looking to carry its momentum over from its dominant opening tournament win at the Gate City Invitational where they won the competition by 16 strokes. Senior Jackson Klutznick led the way for the Eagles in the opener, setting program records for the lowest single-round score with 61 and lowest three-round score with 197. Joining Klutznick in the Tartan Invitational are juniors Michael Burry, Tony Li, and Josh Qian, while freshman Kevin Mu also makes his second appearance for the Eagles.

Men's Soccer:

The No. 5 ranked Emory men's soccer team (8-1-2) is off to its best start since 2017 when the team started 9-2. On the heels of another UAA victory and riding a five-game winning streak, the Eagles are set to play two matches this week. They'll start the week with a crosstown rivalry matchup on the road at Oglethorpe before gearing up for a UAA clash with Carnegie Mellon at home. The Eagles are excelling in all phases of the game during their winning streak, outscoring their opponents 9-1 and have not allowed a goal in three straight games.

Head coach Cory Greiner has seen some newcomers contribute to the hot start as well. Freshmen Prescott Bayman and Turner MacInnis teamed up for the lone goal in the match against Case Western Reserve last weekend when Bayman found MacInnis at the top of the box for the finish. Eight different players have found the back of the net this season, with graduate student Colton Myers leading the way with five.

Tennis:

The Emory men's and women's tennis teams will send a group of players to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia this weekend. The doubles team of sophomore Dean Kamenev and senior Nolan Shah earned an automatic bid to the tournament when they won the ITA South Regional title. Kamenev also garnered an at-large bid to the singles portion of the event after finishing as runner-up at the ITA Regional.

The women will send ITA South Regional Singles Champion sophomore Emily Kantrovitz to the event along with senior Ana Cristina Perez, who finished runner up at the regional. The two will also team up in the doubles draw after finishing as runner-up in the regional and receiving an at-large bid.

Swimming and Diving:

The Emory swimming and diving team will continue its meet schedule on Friday, matched up with Georgia Tech. The Eagles got their season started last weekend against Division II powerhouse Queens University of Charlotte. The men narrowly won their side of the meet, winning seven events and racking up 22 top-three finishes. The women also had an impressive showing with three event wins and 20 top-three finishes but were unable to trounce the Royals. The Eagles will look to keep the momentum rolling into this weekend as they prepare to welcome the Yellow Jackets to the pool.

Cross Country:

The Emory cross country teams will participate in two meets this weekend. Some will head to the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina while others will compete at the Rowan Border Battle in Logan Township, New Jersey. The Eagles are off to a hot start this year, with newcomers leading the way. Headlining the women's team is graduate student Brigid Hanley. In her first three meets as an Eagle, Hanley has finished in the top-10 individually including a fifth-place finish at the competitive Paul Short Run. Freshman Kirin Karver has paved the way for the men, being the first Eagle to cross the finish line in all three meets during his rookie season.

Women's Soccer:

The Emory women's soccer team (5-3-2) will be back home this weekend to take on No. 1 Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles have been dominant when playing on their home turf this year, with a record of 4-1-1 and have outscored opponents 18-2. Carnegie Mellon enters the match with Emory with a near perfect record of 11-0-1. The Tartans boast a potent offense that averages over 3.5 goals per game paired with a stout defense that has surrendered just three goals this season. The Eagles will look to hand the Tartans their first loss of the season on Saturday.

Women's Golf:

The Emory women's golf team will also compete at the Golfweek DIII Invitational in Sandestin this upcoming weekend. The Eagles have performed well thus far, finishing in the top five of each of the three tournaments they've competed in, including a first-place finish at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational. In their previous competition at the NCAA Fall Preview, the Eagles finished fourth of 18 teams with four golfers all shooting a 150 over the two rounds.
