The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for October 16th – 22nd. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men's Golf:

The No. 1 Emory men's golf team will spend the early half of this week in Sandestin, Florida to compete in two events at The Raven Golf Club. The first of which is the Golfweek October Classic, which started this past weekend. The Eagles will then stay at The Raven Golf Club for the UAA Championships on Wednesday. The event is a one-day affair, with teams playing two rounds with match play scoring. The Eagles have won five of the last six UAA Championships.

Women's Golf:

The No. 3 Emory women's golf team will also be in Sandestin, Florida to compete in a couple of events this week. They too will compete in the Golfweek October Classic and UAA Championships, both being played at Baytowne Golf Club. The Eagles are off to a solid start this year, with one win and a pair of second place finishes in three events this fall. Emory has won the previous two UAA Championships, as they gear up to defend their title. The UAA Championships will be match play scoring and consist of two rounds, both being played on Wednesday.

Women's Soccer:

The Emory women's soccer team (5-3-3) will play in three matches this week, starting off with a mid-week matchup on the road against Birmingham Southern. The Eagles will also play in two UAA matches at home this weekend, with Brandeis and NYU scheduled to come to town. The Eagles will play their first game of the weekend on Friday evening in the Emory Homecoming game against Brandeis before welcoming NYU on Sunday for Senior Day. The Eagles faced one of their toughest opponents yet this past weekend, with No. 2 Carnegie Mellon visiting. After a scoreless first half, the two teams each rallied to score three goals apiece in the second half, resulting in a 3-3 draw. With just four conference matches left to play this year, the Eagles will look to capitalize on a major opportunity to climb the table this weekend.

Women's Volleyball:

The No. 5 Emory women's volleyball team (14-0) is off to a record start this year, with 14 straight wins to start the season, setting a program record. The Eagles have dominated every single match they've played in this year, only being pushed to five sets just once this season and winning eight matches in straight sets.

The Eagles have a chance to build upon their record this weekend with a match against Covenant on Friday before heading to Waltham, Massachusetts for the third UAA Round. Covenant is off to a strong start this year, with an overall record of 21-1. The Scots have not dropped a set in five straight matches. The Eagles are pitted against UAA foes No. 12 WashU and Brandeis this Sunday in the final UAA Round Robin which will determine seeding for the UAA Championships next. WashU sits second in the UAA standings with a conference record of 4-1 and overall record of 16-5. Emory has a prime opportunity to take a commanding lead in the UAA regular season standings.

Men's Soccer:

The No. 3 Emory men's soccer team (9-1-3) is off to its best start under head coach Cory Greiner, being ranked nationally in the top-three for the first time since 2003. The Eagles will play in two UAA matches this weekend with Brandeis and NYU scheduled to visit. Friday's match against Brandeis is Emory's homecoming game as well as the program's Senior Night before the Eagles welcome NYU on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles have an opportunity to pull away in the UAA table this weekend, as NYU and Brandeis are second and third in the table, respectively.

Swimming and Diving:

The Emory swimming and diving teams will continue their dual-meet schedule on Saturday, facing off with Birmingham-Southern. This will be the Eagles' first road meet of the year. Emory has started the year strong, with six event wins against Georgia Tech and 10 events against Queens University of Charlotte. The meet with Birmingham-Southern will be the first time the Eagles go head-to-head with a Division III opponent this season.
