Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: November 13th – November 19th

The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for November 13th – November 19th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Cross Country:

After securing at-large bids, the Emory men's and women's cross country teams are headed to Newville, Pennsylvania for the NCAA National Championship Meet. The Eagles are coming off the heels of the NCAA South Regional where 13 Eagles brought home All-Region honors. As a team, the men finished third and the women finished second.

Spearheading the Eagles' season has been graduate student Brigid Hanley. The University of Arizona transfer has been the first Eagle across the finish line in each of her races this fall, including a first-place individual finish earlier this year at the Rowan Border Battle. Hanley also finished second overall in the region this past weekend, helping the Eagles secure an at-large bid.

On the men's side, it has been freshman Kirin Karver and senior Scott Masterson paving the way. One of the two has been the first Eagle to cross the finish line in each meet this year. Masterson is heading into the national meet with momentum, finishing seventh overall in the regional and 15th overall at the UAA Championships. The Eagles will look to keep it rolling this weekend in their final meet of the year.

The Eagles reached the championship match of the UAA Championships this past weekend but fell to the NYU Violets in five sets. Despite the loss, the Eagles racked up kills over the weekend, with junior Lily Martin racking up 34 during the tournament. Junior Sarah Luong played a major role in the Eagles' strong attack, picking up 74 assists in the Eagles' UAA Championship run. This season, the Eagles are averaging 13.47 kills per set while recording a 23.9% hitting percentage.

The Eagles picked up their first win of the season on Sunday in a convincing 81-44 victory over N.C. Wesleyan. Emory received scoring from a multitude of players this past weekend in North Carolina, with senior guard Izzy Munson leading the way with 22 points and shooting 57.1% from the field on the weekend. Emory's defense also fared well this past weekend, surrendering just 101 points over the course of two games. The Eagles are also returning 2022-23 All-American Honorable Mention senior Claire Brock this season, who will likely play a pivotal role in the offense this weekend.
