Emory Falls to Atlanta Christian, 8-2

The Emory University baseball team dropped its second-straight game on Wednesday, falling 8-2 to Atlanta Christian College at Chappell Park.

Emory fell behind early, as starter Chris Monaco allowed two runs in the first on a pair of RBI groundouts for the Chargers.  The Eagles would pull back within a run in the bottom of the first, with Brandon Hannon scoring on a RBI single from Jonathan Reilly.

The Chargers would add to their lead with a run in each of the second and fourth innings, before Emory scored again in the bottom of the fourth, after Andrew Cohn doubled to start the inning, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Evan Plys, making the score 4-2.

The Eagles would get three-straight singles with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but Cohn was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a base hit up the middle from Gabe Shivers.  Atlanta Christian would build off of the momentum from that play, scoring four in the seventh and one in the eight to cap off the victory.

Chargers starter Kelsey Moore earned the victory with seven innings of work, allowing eight hits and two unearned runs.  Monaco took the loss for Emory, falling to 2-3 on the year.

Cohn finished the game two-for-three for the Eagles with  a double and a run scored, while Reilly added a pair of hits and an RBI.

With the loss, Emory fell to 21-12 on the season, while Atlanta Christian improved to 18-16 with the win.  The Eagles will return to action on Friday, kicking off a home-and-home series against Covenant College at 3:00 PM at Chappell Park.
