Eagles Drop Second-Straight Game with 5-1 Loss to Berry College

The Emory University baseball team dropped its second-straight game to Berry College on Sunday, falling 5-1 to the Vikings at Chappell Park.

The loss drops Emory's record to 25-14 on the season, while Berry improved to 20-12 with the victory.

The Eagles needed a late run to avoid the shutout, as Patrick Riebsame doubled in Jonathan Reilly from first base in the ninth inning to score the only Emory run of the game.

Berry starter Scott Pollock pitched the second complete game of the series for the Vikings, allowing seven hits and one walk and striking out seven batters during his nine innings of work.  He improved to 2-1 on the year with the victory.

Reilly and Riebsame eached finished the game with a pair of hits.  Riebsame picked up two doubles in the game, including one in the seventh inning that hit roughly two feet off the top of the wall in left center, narrowly missing the senior's eighth home run of the season.

Emory starter Ben Hinojosa took the loss, allowing five runs, three of which were earned, on 10 hits and a walk, striking out one batter.  The freshman allowed a pair of runs in the third inning, aided by his own throwing error and a catcher's interference in the inning.  He allowed single runs in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, including a solo home run to Thomas Johnson in the seventh.

Sophomore Mike Bitanga pitched the final two innings for Emory, holding Berry scoreless on one hit, while striking out a batter.

Emory will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to North Georgia College and State University for a 7:00 PM game against the NCAA Division II institution.
