The Emory University baseball team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 7-5 at Oglethorpe University. 

After both teams battled through a pair of scoreless innings, Oglethorpe broke through with a pair of runs off Emory starter Paul Schwendel in the third on a bases-loaded walk and a fielder choice.  The Stormy Petrels would put up another run in the fourth on an RBI groundout to take a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles would score all of their runs in the fifth inning, including a  RBI double for Gabe Shivers, a run-scoring single for Ryan Jones, a two-RBI double from Andrew Cohn, and an RBI single from Patrick Riebsame.

Freshman Jason Edwards, making his collegiate debut, entered the game in relief of Schwendel with two outs in the fourth inning, and kept Oglethorpe off the board with just two hits and two walks allowed with four strikeouts through his first three-and-two-thirds innings on the mound.  However, in the eighth, Edwards allowed three runs on two hits and a walk, including the go-ahead run, to give the Stormy Petrels the lead.  Emory would go down one-two-three in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Cohn finished the game one-for-four with two RBIs, and has now driven in six runs through his first two games.  Riebsame, Shivers and Jones each had a pair of hits, as the Eagles totaled eight hits, just a day after posting 17 hits against the Stormy Petrels.

With the loss, Emory falls to 1-1 on the campaign, while Oglethorpe improved to 1-2.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday at 2:00 PM, as the Eagles will host their first game of the Rawlings Southern Classic against York College (Pa.).
