Eagles Fall at Home to #20 Birmingham-Southern

The Emory University Baseball team was defeated by 20th-ranked Birmingham-Southern College 12-1 at Chappell Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles fell to 13-12 on the season with the loss, while the Panthers raised their record to 21-8.

Emory managed just a pair of hits in the game – singles from junior Brandon Hannon in the third inning and Daniel Iturrey in the seventh.  The Eagles scored their only run of the game in the first inning, when junior Jared Kahn walked to start the game, stole second, and scored on a throwing error.

Birmingham-Southern scored six runs in the first three innings to grab the early lead, five of which were unearned on three Emory errors.  The score remained 6-1 until the Panthers added two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to cement their lead.

Starter Michael Byman took the loss to Emory to fall to 0-1 on the season, while Kyle Royalty earned the win for the Panthers, improving to 3-1.

Emory will look to bounce back this weekend, when it plays a three-game series at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1:00 PM.
