Eagles Return Home to Host Oglethorpe & Maryville

The Emory University Baseball team will open a four-game home stand at Chappell Park this week, hosting Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, April 16th at 3:00 PM, and Maryville College (Tenn.) at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 17th.

Emory Eagles
After splitting a doubleheader with NAIA squad Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday, Emory is now 17-14 during the 2013 campaign, including a mark of 4-5 at home.  The Eagles are batting .276 this season, while averaging 5.7 runs per game, while the pitchers have a 3.60 ERA with a .282 opponents batting average.

Emory head coach Mike Twardoski, currently has a record of 406-193-1 during his 14-year career at Emory.  Twardoski has led the squad to eight UAA Championships, seven NCAA Tournament Appearances and three Division III World Series trips, including a second-place finish in 2007.  He began the year as the 22nd-winningest active coach in Division III and the 27th-best Division III coach all-time with a .685 winning percentage.

Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels
Oglethorpe stands at 12-22 during the season, but has turned around its season after winning seven of its last 10 games, including a 14-3 victory over Sewanee on Sunday.  The Stormy Petrels are 4-15 at home this year.  Through 34 games this season, Oglethorpe is batting .255 as a team, and is averaging 5.4 runs per game.  The team's pitchers have combined for a 4.69 ERA and a .295 opponent's batting average.

Oglethorpe is coached by Dan Giordano.  He is assisted by Spencer Kennedy and pitching coach Sam Briend.

Emory defeated Oglethorpe when the two teams met on the road earlier this season, scoring a season-high 18 runs in an 18-6 win.  Junior Brandon Hannon paced the Eagles with a four-for-five performance, including a triple, three stolen bases, four runs scored and six runs batted in.  Junior Daniel Iturrey added three RBIs in the game, while juniors Jared Welch and Jared Kahn each drove in a pair.  Emory is 43-15 all-time against Oglethorpe, including five-straight victories.

Maryville College Scots
Maryville has a 16-22 record in 2013, and is coming off a 1-2 performance at the USA South Conference Tournament last weekend.  The Scots are 4-11 in road games this season.  Maryville is batting .278 as a team this season and has scored an average of 5.3 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 4.57 ERA, and opponents are batting .288 against it.

Maryville is led by second year head coach Paul Henry, who has a record of 34-42 during his two years with the team.  He is assisted by Joey McCown and Jimmy Reese.

The Eagles defeated the Scots 8-5 on February 26th, behind a strong seven innings from starter Tyler Sprague, and a three RBI day at the plate from sophomore Brett Lake. Emory is 30-26 all-time against Maryville, breaking up a seven-game losing streak to the Scots with the win earlier this season.
