Emory’s Winning Streak Ends with 10-6 Loss to Methodist

The Emory University Baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to a close on Sunday afternoon with a 10-6 loss to Methodist University at Chappell Park.

The loss was just Emory's second in its last nine games, as the squad fell to 20-15 on the season.  Methodist improved to 22-20 with the victory.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Eagles bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the first, scoring on a single from Ben Vizvary, sacrifice flies from Brandon Hannon and Mark Lindemann, and a Methodist throwing error on a ball hit by Wes Peacock.  The Monarchs regained the lead in the second, scoring another two runs to go up 5-4, but the Eagles would score single runs in the second and third innings to regain a 6-5 advantage.

However, things would fall apart for Emory from there.  Methodist scored two more runs in the fourth, and three in the sixth, to gain a 10-6 lead over the Eagles.  Reliever Michael Byman provided Emory with four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just three hits, but it would prove to be too little too late for the Eagles.

Vizvary finished the game three-for-five with an RBI, capping off a week during which he hit .667 (eight-for-12) with five RBIs.  Jared Kahn was two-for-five with a double, a triple, and two runs scored, and Peacock contributed a two-for-four day with two runs scored and an RBI.

Emory freshman starter Tyler Sprague took the loss, falling to 3-5 on the year.  Michael Judge earned the victory for Methodist with six and a third innings of scoreless relief work, improving to 4-3.

The Eagles will play their third game in as many days on Monday, when the team travels to LaGrange College for a 7:00 PM meeting with the Panthers.
